Wouldn’t it be cool and exciting to find yourself solving Math problems in just a blink of an eye?  Yes, without using a calculator, one can easily crack some Mathematical equations by doing the computations mentally.  Here are some basic yet handy and short tricks you can use for your everyday Math problems.

Trick #1 Adding in Parts

When adding two-digit numbers, simply break the number into its tens and ones, and then add them up.

16 + 11
= 10 + 10 + 6 + 1
= 10 + 10 + 7
= _______

Trick #2 Subtracting from Left to Right

For subtraction that requires borrowing, simply round the subtrahend (second number) up to a multiple of ten.  Subtract the rounded number from the minuend (first number), and then add back the difference you got from rounding up the subtrahend (second number).

85 – 27
= 85 – 30
= 55 + 3
= _______

Trick #3 Multiplying by 4

When multiplying a number by four, simply double the number twice.

Trick #4 Multiplying by 5

When multiplying a number by 5, simply divide the number in two, and then multiply it by 10.

Trick #5 Multiplying by 11

When multiplying two-digit numbers by 11, simply add the digits, and then place it in the middle of them.

16 x 11
1 + 6 = 7
= 176

However, if the sum is greater than 10, you need to add 1 to the first digit.

29 x 11
2 + 9 = 11
= 319

You can also apply the same trick if you want to multiply three-digit numbers by 11.

318 x 11
3 + 1 = 4
1 + 8 = 9
= 3498

The ones given above are just SOME of the many useful tricks we can use in doing mental Math.
